Salem population: 42,000
Salem is the county seat of Essex County
Land area: 8.10 sq. mi.
Water area: 9.95 sq. mi.
Shoreline: 18.5 miles
Salem owns 10 islands in Salem Sound
including Baker's Island, Great Misery Island
and Little Misery Island. The other seven
include one on the Atlantic side of Marble-
head and one off the coast of Swampscott.
Hospitals: North Shore Medical Center con-
sisting of the Salem Hospital, the Salem
Childrens Hospital, and the Shaughnessy-
Kaplan Rehabilitation Hospital.
