         Massachusetts District Court Chief Justice Samuel Zoll has led a life of public service. Born in Salem, Zoll was elected to the Salem City Council in 1958. In   

        1965  he ran successfully for the U.S. House of Representatives. He later served as mayor of Salem from 1970 to 1973.
