Text Box: Check out the Athenaeum's Summer Salons
The Summer Salons were a hit last year and promise to be even better this summer.
The concept is simple. You gather around the presenter. Listen to a brief introduction to the topic and then take part (or simply listen) in a lively discussion of the topic. It's casual, relaxed and early enough so as not to interfere with your evening plans. They usually run from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. If weather permits they might take place on the rear porch.

This summer's salons:

Friday, July 3, 5:00 p.m.
Dr. Dale Gephart, honorary curator of the current exhibition, "American Medical Botany: A Salem Athenĉum Treasure", will give a gallery talk about author Jacob Bigelow and his influential work.

Friday, July 10, 5:00 p.m.
Salem State College professors, William Cornwell and Ed Wilkens (retired), will discuss commonalities of philosophy and computers.

Friday, July 17, 5:00 p.m.
Rebel Shakespeare Company returns with a performance of HAMLET.

Friday, July 24, 5:00 p.m.
Todd DePastino will give an illustrated talk on Bill Mauldin creator of "Up Front."
