Text Box: Baker Island Baker’s Island, five miles out of Salem Harbor, is under the jurisdiction of Salem along with several smaller islands. The first of two lighthouses on Baker’s Island was raised September 16, 1797 and the two lights were shown January 3 1798. They were replaced in 1816 by taller towers. The 59-foot taller of the two continues in operation. It was automated in 1972.
